CMPD Cracks Down on Youth Offenses: Parents Charged After Uptown New Year’s Eve 🚨🎆

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police (CMPD) didn’t take the New Year lightly, ensuring safety and accountability during uptown Charlotte’s celebrations. Officers arrested 18 people, seized six firearms, and issued charges ranging from drug possession to concealed weapon violations. Among those arrested were 10 minors whose parents are now facing charges of neglect and contributing to delinquency.

Guns, Drugs, and Curfew Offenses

The juveniles, aged 10 to 15, were charged with curfew violations under the city’s youth protection ordinance, along with marijuana possession and drug paraphernalia charges. The ordinance enforces a 10 PM curfew for children under 13 and an 11 PM curfew for those aged 13 to 15. CMPD’s Juvenile Apprehension and Diversion Empowerment (JADE) unit conducted home visits to previous offenders’ families, warning them of the consequences of further violations. Thankfully, none of those who visited reoffended on New Year’s Eve.

Parents Held Accountable

CMPD didn’t stop with the kids—parents of the juveniles were charged with contributing to delinquency and neglect. Officers sent a clear message: when kids break the rules, the adults responsible will face consequences, too.

Adults Face Their Charges

While juveniles grabbed headlines, adults didn’t escape scrutiny. CMPD arrested eight adults, charging them with offenses like carrying concealed weapons, disorderly conduct, and drug possession. Notable arrests included:

  • Murray Edwards, 42, charged with disorderly conduct and carrying a concealed weapon.
  • Jergio Pavon-Reyes, 18, found with a stolen firearm.
  • Rassell Young, 18, arrested for marijuana possession and resisting arrest.

CMPD’s firm stance on law enforcement has sparked discussions about safety, prevention, and community responsibility.
