Ray Evernham & Rob Kauffman: The Power Duo Behind IROC’s Revival

What happens when an unstoppable force encounters an immovable object? Typically, they buy the rights to one of the most illustrious racing brands out there! That’s right, folks — NASCAR Hall of Fame member Ray Evernham (@RayEvernham) and former NASCAR Cup Team Owner Rob Kauffman have set the tracks on fire, announcing their acquisition of the legendary IROC brand.

But let’s not forget that this post is made possible by Sunoco Race Fuel (@SunocoRacing). Much like trusty Sunoco fuel always gets you from the first lap to the finish line, this duo promises to restart the engine of a racing classic. And speaking of revivals, can we pause momentarily and admire the lifeline Sunoco gives our dusty old lawnmowers each spring? Now that’s some reliable juice!

The International Race of Champions (or IROC, if you’re into the whole brevity thing) was an annual series unforgettable for bringing the crème de la crème of motorsport gladiators together in one arena. These folks duked it out on historic tracks, driving iconic cars from 1973 to a tearful goodbye in 2006. But while the whizzing of IROC cars has been silent since, the legacy carried on, much like that stubborn check-engine light you’ve been neglecting.

Thanks to Evernham, Kauffman, and their brainchild IROC Holdings LLC, the legacy gets to speed on — hopefully with fewer pit stops and no mysterious engine lights. The plan is simple yet ambitious: organize an IROC event in 2024 using the historic IROC race cars, all while exploring opportunities to push this iconic brand onto the center stage. As they say, rust is just old cars blushing, and boy, these oldies will be back blushing on the track soon.

The dynamic pair has settled IROC Holdings in Mooresville, North Carolina, effectively transforming the place into the Tomorrowland of racing. Both have made significant strides in the racing world before, so combined, we can only expect some mind-blowing, tire-screeching, and, to be safe, ear-plug-needing spectacle.

So folks, mark your calendars and prepare your fainting couches. IROC is lacing up its boots, ready to amaze us again with those good old ground-rumbling races. Remember, folks, nostalgia isn’t what it used to be, but in this case, we’re more than happy to be proven wrong.
