Why there’s no District 2 primary
Only one candidate filed for District 2, so the Democratic primary was cancelled and he advances automatically to the general election. District 2 voters will still choose mayor and at‑large council candidates in September.
Candidate profile
Malcolm Graham (D – Incumbent)
- Background: A former N.C. state senator (2005–2015), Graham first served on Charlotte’s city council from 1999–2004 and was elected again in 2019. He cites his West End upbringing and focus on equitable growth, corridor reinvestment and public safety.

District 2 overview
District 2 encompasses much of West Charlotte, including the Historic West End, communities along Beatties Ford Road and parts of Uptown. While the Democratic primary is uncontested this year, voters will still determine who represents the district in the November general election. Key issues include corridor investment, affordable housing and safety.
