Sary Chakra: District 6 Republican Candidate
Early Life and Background
Born in Charlotte in 1991, Sary Chakra is a first-generation Lebanese-American. He credits his immigrant family’s work ethic with shaping his entrepreneurial drive. Chakra has lived in multiple Charlotte districts but now resides in south Charlotte’s District 6 with his wife, Hannah. The couple are active in their church and volunteer activities.
Professional Career
Chakra is a small-business owner and real-estate developer. His work spans stormwater and infrastructure construction, real-estate management, and neighborhood governance. He chairs his homeowners association board and manages rental properties.
He is listed as the contact for Carolina Prime Developers LLC in the North Carolina Department of Transportation vendor directory. He is also linked to Sary Enterprises LLC, involved in commercial leasing; the company was party to a civil lease dispute in 2025, but there is no indication of criminal wrongdoing.
Community Involvement
Chakra describes himself as a “community advocate.” He points to his HOA service, attendance at City Council meetings, and volunteer work in animal rescue as part of his civic footprint. At a May 2025 interim-appointment forum, he emphasized transparency and declared his intention to run for Council openly.
2025 Election Context
Chakra is one of two Republicans competing in the September 9, 2025 GOP primary for District 6, facing Krista Bokhari. The winner will challenge Democrat Kimberly Owens in November. The seat is a critical Republican hold: District 6 has been one of only two GOP-controlled districts in Charlotte, previously represented by Tariq Bokhari and then interim appointee Edwin Peacock III.
Chakra is considered an insurgent candidate, running without the backing of the Mecklenburg County GOP establishment, which has endorsed Bokhari.
Policy Positions
- Public Safety: Chakra calls for strong support of law enforcement, community policing, and expanded training for first responders. He frames public safety as essential for economic growth and quality of life.
- Infrastructure and Roads: He advocates for “smarter road planning” and major investments in infrastructure to relieve congestion. His professional work in stormwater construction underpins this priority.
- Fiscal Responsibility and Development: In forums, he has stressed the need for transparency in budgeting and “smart growth” policies that balance development with neighborhood character.
Business Interests & Finances
- Carolina Prime Developers LLC – Real-estate development and construction, listed with NCDOT.
- Sary Enterprises LLC – Engaged in commercial leasing, tied to an early-2025 civil dispute.
- Campaign Funding – No public campaign finance reports yet available. Chakra may partially self-fund but is expected to rely on community fundraising.
