Brooklyn Village Redevelopment

Three-phase mixed-use redevelopment on the site of Brooklyn, the Black Second Ward neighborhood cleared by urban renewal. Phase 1, at the former Bob Walton Plaza site, is known as Brooklyn Village South; Phases 2 and 3 cover the former Board of Education building and Marshall Park. As of 2026-08-05, the previous developer's lender had taken ownership of the Phase 1 parcel and First and Early Capital had since acquired it, which is why the new owners appeared before the county board. County Manager Mike Bryant told commissioners the presentation covered Phase 1 only and described his aim as getting the development back on track.
