The regional road safety survey that asks where you feel unsafe on the road, titled Safety Is No Accident, closes Sunday, Oct. 25. It covers Mecklenburg, Union and Iredell counties and is online at safestreetsforus.com.

"More than a dozen people are killed or seriously injured on our streets in the planning area every week," Will Snyder, who manages the safety plan for the Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization, told the group's board Wednesday.

The survey had 5,200 completed responses as of Wednesday, up from 3,700 about a week earlier, the board heard. The plan is to single out 100 high-priority locations, and the survey answers will help choose where teams conduct road safety audits, close reviews of a stretch of road for hazards, on 30 one-mile segments early next year.

A $3.15 million federal grant supports the safety plan.
