The PENALTY KICK arrived in the 97th minute and there was nothing your Charlotte FC could do about it.
Carles Gil stepped to the spot at Gillette Stadium on Saturday, May 2, converted his third goal of the season, and the New England Revolution walked away with a 1-0 victory. Three straight losses for the Crown. Fourteen points. A 4-5-2 record on the year.
Gil's finish — his 19th career MLS penalty, a New England club record — was the night's only tally. Charlotte had their moments. Idan Toklomati rattled the crossbar in the 37th minute. Morrison forced Matt Turner into a tipping save late. The ball just would not go in.
New England outshot Charlotte 7-3 in the first half, and that edge defined the evening. Turner logged his third clean sheet of the season. The Revolution are 5-0-0 at Gillette — their best home start since the Supporters' Shield year in 2021. Gil has now found the scoresheet in four consecutive matches.
Charlotte heads back to Bank of America Stadium in search of a turnaround. This one stings.
