Some restaurants simply serve great food. Others become part of the fabric of a community. In a short time, Mother's Comfort Food & Cocktails has become the latter, earning a loyal following and becoming a neighborhood favorite at Park Road Shopping Center.

Mother's, founded in 2010, chose Charlotte for its first East Coast location and brought with it a philosophy centered on family, generosity and community.

Any time of day

Walk in any morning and you will find parents catching up after school drop-off, business meetings over coffee, retirees lingering over breakfast and friends sharing lunch on the patio. By dinner, families fill the dining room while neighbors stop by to watch the game or unwind after work.

The menu offers breakfast, lunch and dinner all day. Pancakes and biscuit skillets sit alongside omelets and burgers, fresh salads, Korean BBQ nachos, seafood, steaks and classic comfort food favorites. Portions are generous enough to share and usually guarantee leftovers for tomorrow. Handcrafted cocktails, wine, mocktails and specialty coffees round out the list. One menu item, Aubrey's Amazing Pollo Pozole, is a namesake dish for Aubrey Hilliard, pictured at the bar in the magazine.

The patio hosts a "Yappy Hour," where neighbors bring their dogs.

Beyond the dining room

Long before opening in Charlotte, the restaurant built a reputation for supporting the communities it serves. In Charlotte that has taken the form of partnerships with local schools, athletic programs and neighborhood organizations. Mother's has supported local high school athletics and looks for ways to give back through school fundraisers, teacher appreciation initiatives and community events.

For many local families, it has become the place to gather before or after games, celebrate milestones or simply have dinner together after a busy week.

With a welcoming patio, an indoor-outdoor bar and a family-friendly atmosphere, Mother's has, in less than a year, become one of Park Road Shopping Center's favorite gathering places. Find it at Park Road Shopping Center and on Instagram at @MothersComfortFoodAndCocktails.
