Idan Toklomati, Charlotte FC's 22-year-old striker, scored his 13th Major League Soccer goal of the season on Saturday, Oct. 17, a club record, as Charlotte drew 2-2 with the Philadelphia Union at Subaru Park in Chester, Pa.
Philadelphia's Milan Iloski scored first on a first-half penalty kick. Charlotte forward Rodolfo Aloko tied the score in the 48th minute, and Toklomati headed in a ball from defender David Schnegg in the 62nd to put Charlotte ahead 2-1. Philadelphia's Bruno Damiani made it 2-2 in the 73rd.
Toklomati passed the club record of 12 MLS goals, set by Karol Swiderski in 2023 and matched this season by midfielder Pep Biel, according to the club. The draw, worth one point in the standings, kept Charlotte fifth in the league's Eastern Conference. Philadelphia had won eight straight, Charlotte captain Ashley Westwood said.
Toklomati, an Israel national team player from Netanya, joined Charlotte in the summer of 2024 and became its top striker after the club sold forward Patrick Agyemang, the club says. He has eight goals in his last 10 matches. "I thought he was a beast in the air," Charlotte head coach Dean Smith said.
Smith disputed the penalty that gave Philadelphia its lead. He said replays showed the ball came off the head of Charlotte defender Nathan Byrne and into Biel, and that it should never have been a penalty.
Asked about an incident after Toklomati's goal, Westwood said the referee called players in, told them something had been said and let play continue. Smith said a player was alleged to have used a banned word, and that he did not know who or where it came from.
Charlotte finishes a three-match road trip at the Portland Timbers on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 10:30 p.m. ET.
