Summer Nunn told constituents she will not seek another term on the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools board. The marketing executive and parent of two posted that she refused to put “career, family, or reputation at risk because of politics.”
One Term, Many Fights
First elected in 2022, Nunn pushed a $2.5 billion facilities bond, a new five-year strategic plan, and two new schools in District 6. She chaired the Intergovernmental Relationships Committee and lobbied Raleigh for teacher pay bumps. Yet she was one of three members voting against Crystal Hill’s confirmation as superintendent in 2023.
Communication Breakdown Cited
Nunn blasted gaps in board-district messaging. She pointed to shooting-threat alerts that reached parents days late and a three-week silence when Ardrey Kell High’s principal was suspended. “It takes more effort than it should,” she wrote.
Who Wants the Seat Now?
Anna London, head of Charlotte Works, filed for District 6. She says students need a “bridge” to work after graduation but admits CMS challenges remain unclear to her. No other candidates have filed.
Party Lines, Nonpartisan Label
Both Nunn and London are registered Democrats, though board races stay nonpartisan on paper. Nunn noted a fellow Democrat jumped in before she went public, hinting at “dysfunction” that outlives her term. She offered no endorsement.
What Comes Next
