What to Watch, and Why It Matters

What: Weekly community forum that gathers candidates, officials, and advocates. The Forum meets around 8:30 a.m., with an in-person audience and a livestream.
When/Where: Tue, Sept 30, 8:30–10 ET, Belmont Center, 700 Parkwood Ave; watch on Forum Live.

UDO Board of Adjustment

What: Quasi-judicial decisions on setbacks, frontage, and site standards that shape infill, costs, and streetscapes.
When/Where: Tue, Sept 30, 9–1 ET, CMGC Room 280, 600 E. 4th St.

Virtual ADA Training Session

What: City session on accommodating cognitive and developmental disabilities in programs and services.
When/Where: Tue, Sept 30, 10–11 ET, online via Teams.
Why it matters: If your neighborhood group or nonprofit hosts public events, this helps you run them accessibly. Charlotte NC

Juvenile Crime Prevention Council (JCPC)

What: County-state gate for youth-program funding and performance.
When/Where: Wed, Oct 1, 4–6 ET, CMGC Room 267.

BOCC Intergovernmental Relations Committee

What: County posture with the City, towns, Raleigh, and D.C., including transportation and other joint priorities.
When/Where: Thu, Oct 2, 1–2:30 ET. Location posted on the County calendar as TBA.

Elections: Ballots Begin Mailing

What: Absentee ballots for the Nov. 4 General begin mailing on Fri, Oct 3.

“Delta Days in the City” Social Action Conference

What: Civic literacy day with guest speakers, voter information, and lunch, hosted by the Charlotte Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
When/Where: Sat, Oct 4, 9–1 ET, Friendship Missionary Baptist Church Conference Center, 3400 Beatties Ford Rd.
Why it matters: A primer on local issues and how to plug in, ahead of voting. Ticketed event. WFAE

CMS School Board Candidate Forum

What: Meet candidates, compare positions, and ask questions in person.
When/Where: Sun, Oct 5, 2–4 ET, Allegra Westbrooks Regional Library.
Why it matters: School boards control people, programs, and significant money. Outcomes show up in classrooms. Tuesday Forum Charlotte
