Peter and Hannah Hall found each other just before retirement. They say the timing was exactly right.
Peter and Hannah Hall were set up on a first date by mutual friends in 2018, after decades of careers, family, faith and friends. Peter spent 38 years in the banking industry. Hannah's career spanned posts across the Southeast in television news and economic development.
Both "officially" retired in 2023. Peter now teaches as a part-time adjunct professor at the University of South Carolina's Moore School of Business. Hannah started a small media, marketing and grant writing business. She works with Real Champions, Inc., a nonprofit that mentors at-risk students, and anchors the University of South Carolina's new magazine, Inside Carolina.

Peter has three grown children who have been a gift in Hannah's life. Their son Ryan is married to Griffin, and the two have a daughter, Baker Anne. Their second son, Owen, is married to Samantha and lives in Charlotte. Their daughter, Lauren, lives in Manhattan. All three attended Charlotte Catholic High School and then some combination of USC and UNC for their undergraduate degrees. Either way, as the Halls put it, Go Carolina.
Like most families with grown children, the Halls gather as a group during the holidays and at their second home on Hilton Head Island, where they spend a lot of time boating and golfing. Their travels run to Williamsburg, where they married, to Europe, and to anywhere they can play golf.
Golf as a shared hobby
Peter and Hannah play golf together, and with friends, several times a week at Providence Country Club. They believe having a hobby in common has strengthened their relationship, the struggles of the game included. They are on a mission to play every McConnell course together, adding to their collection of golf balls from the courses they play along the way.
When they are not traveling, they cook. Peter picked up his kitchen skills from his late mother, Betty, and grew up on Long Island with a love for all things Chicken Parmigiana. Hannah's Alabama upbringing comes smothered and covered in Cajun seasoning. A month-long trip to France this fall was to be their chance to branch out into French cooking, cheese and plenty of wine.
Their message to other couples is simple. Believe in second chances for love, at any age. It is never too early, or too late, for a happily-ever-after.
This story appears in the June 2026 issue of Stroll Providence.
