David and Jade Murray found a quiet cul-de-sac, a kid-friendly club and a street full of neighbors who already liked each other.
David and Jade Murray moved to Providence Country Club in late 2023 with their daughter, Elle, and found a house tucked back in a quiet cul-de-sac. They joined the club shortly after. Ask what they like best and the answer is the people: a street where many of the neighbors share a long history and enjoy one another's company.
Both have deep Carolina roots. David was born in Charlotte and grew up in Greenwood, South Carolina. Jade grew up in a close-knit farming community in Gibsonville, North Carolina, and still grows anything from tomatoes to sunflowers.
They met in law school at North Carolina Central University and bonded over litigation and classic rock. After law school, David returned to Charlotte to practice eminent domain and condemnation law, and Jade moved to Spartanburg, South Carolina, to practice management-side employment law. On New Year's Eve 2011, David proposed on Murray Blvd on the Battery in Charleston, and Jade joined him in Charlotte. They still go back for pictures.
A law firm run as a team
David founded Murray Law Firm, PLLC, in 2022 after more than a decade representing landowners in eminent domain, condemnation and zoning matters. Jade joined the practice in 2023 after serving as general counsel and chief human resources officer for a consumer-packaged goods company. Best Lawyers named David the 2026 Charlotte Lawyer of the Year for Eminent Domain and Condemnation Law, and the firm was recognized in the Chambers Spotlight North Carolina 2026.
Elle, Sweetie and the Murr-Mobile
Elle, born in 2017, is a second grader who dances at Miller Street, swims, plays the guitar and looks forward to swim team season at the club each summer. Sweetie, a Siberian Forest cat, joined the family last year. The family's Carolina blue and white golf cart, the "Murr-Mobile," is a familiar sight in the neighborhood.
Christmas, with a side trip to the Arctic Circle
Christmas is the big one. David sets up the miniature village he inherited from his grandfather, Jade hunts for the largest Fraser fir she can find, and nearly 30 relatives on Jade's side gather for the Cobb Family Christmas in Boone. That love of the season inspired the family's most memorable trip, to Finland and Denmark in 2024, with a stop at Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi, inside the Arctic Circle.
The Murrays support Habitat for Humanity and are involved at Elle's school, Charlotte Preparatory School, where Jade, as treasurer of the Board of Trustees, played a key role in leading a capital campaign for a new, expanded facility after the 2023 fire that destroyed the lower school.
Their favorite neighborhood tradition is Halloween, when neighbors set up tables and chairs at the end of their driveways and the golf cart, strung with orange lights, makes the rounds.
