What is on around the games
The club is calling Friday and Saturday Fan Appreciation Weekend.
Friday, September 11 is Fireworks and First Responders Night, first pitch 7:04. Touch-a-Truck in the Kids Zone beforehand, the Knights in Military Appreciation jerseys that go to an online auction afterward, and a postgame fireworks show presented by Truist and Tito's Handmade Vodka.
Saturday, September 12 is the doubleheader and the end of it. Before the 5:35 game there is live music from Greazy Keyz and pregame catch on the field. After it, the club has promised what it calls a super-sized fireworks show, double the usual, to close the home schedule.
Across both days the Knights say they will clean out the closet and hand out promotional items left over from the season, bobbleheads and T-shirts among them.
Tickets are at charlotteknights.com or through the Knights ticket office.
Major leaguers are passing through, and they will not be here long
The Knights are the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, and several White Sox players have spent this month in Charlotte rehabbing injuries. Rehab assignments are short, so none of them is guaranteed to still be on the roster Tuesday, but this is who has been playing.
Davis Martin pitched five shutout innings on August 27 in his first outing with the Knights this season, giving up one hit and striking out five. Catcher Kyle Teel went 3-for-4 in the win that took the Memphis series on August 30, then hit a game-tying home run in the ninth inning two nights later in Gwinnett. Drew Thorpe threw five innings in a rehab start on September 2. Reliever Huascar Brazoban made his Charlotte debut the same night and pitched a scoreless sixth.
A pitcher who threw a shutout and then struck out eleven
On August 29 David Sandlin threw a complete-game shutout with nine strikeouts. The club said it was only the second complete game any Charlotte pitcher had thrown this season. Six days later, on Friday night in Gwinnett, he struck out a career-high eleven in five and two-thirds innings.
Charlotte is 74-62, second in the International League East, and Friday's win put the club twelve games over .500.
Who is coming
The Buffalo Bisons, the Triple-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, 64-70 and seventh in the ten-team International League East. They have lost four in a row.
The Knights are at Gwinnett through Sunday and lead that series three games to one. They come home Tuesday either way, for the last time this year.
